When should you go to Europe? A month-by-month guide

Cheaper shoulders, warmer summers, magical winters — the trade-offs of every Europe season.

'Best time to visit Europe' depends on whether you optimise for weather, crowds or budget. Here's how each season actually feels.

Spring (April–May): the sweet spot — flowers, fewer crowds, moderate prices, occasionally rainy. Our most-recommended window.

Summer (June–August): long days, festivals, peak crowds, peak prices. The mountain regions stay pleasant; the southern Mediterranean is hot.

Autumn (September–October): the second sweet spot — golden light, vineyard harvest, prices dropping, sometimes wet.

Winter (November–February): dark and cold but magical — Christmas markets in December, ski regions full, light crowds, lowest prices. The Northern Lights season runs January–March.

Don't go in: mid-August when locals close shop (especially France/Italy), mid-November when many sites are between seasons.

India-specific note: Schengen visas are slower in peak summer; apply 8 weeks ahead.
